Slave Play
By Jeremy O. Harris
New Dates TBA
PERFORMANCE UPDATE
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Left Edge Theatre’s production of SLAVE PLAY was unable to open as scheduled.
We are working toward resuming performances soon and will share updated performance dates and information as soon as they are confirmed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as Left Edge Theatre works through this unexpected change.
The old South lives on at the MacGregor Plantation—in the breeze, in the cotton fields…and in the crack of the whip. It’s an antebellum fever-dream, where fear and desire entwine in the looming shadow of the Master’s House. Jim trembles as Kaneisha handles melons in the cottage, Alana perspires in time with the plucking of Phillip’s fiddle in the boudoir, while Dustin cowers at the heel of Gary’s big, black boot in the barn. Nothing is as it seems, and yet everything is as it seems.
In this provocative and explosive new play, Jeremy O. Harris rips apart history to shed new light on the nexus of race, gender and sexuality in 21st century America.
SLAVE PLAY is the recipient of the Rosa Parks Playwriting Award, the Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award, The Lotos Foundation Prize in the Arts and Sciences and the 2018 Paula Vogel Award.
This play contains nudity, sexual content, simulated sexual violence, and racially violent language. Recommended for ages 17+

Dana Hunt has been performing with Left Edge Theatre since 2023 in shows such as Avenue Q, Bootycandy, Fully Committed, Everybody, and Airness. He has also stepped into the director’s chair for The Shark Is Broken, and can be found performing in The All-Star Improv Showdown at The California.

Tajai Jaxon Britten (He/Him) lives for the experience of storytelling. He loves having the
opportunity to perform in works written by underrepresented or marginalized groups, especially
those of minorities, women, People of Color, and the LGBTQIA+ community. He laughs that he
prefers his Santa Rosa Junior College Acting Certificate (2024) over his University of California,
Berkeley Bachelor’s in Biology (2013). His favorite roles include Sutter in Bootycandy (Left
Edge Theatre) and Zach in A Chorus Line (6th Street Playhouse).

Lacie Oakley-McCarter (She/Her) is an actor/writer who was bitten by the acting bug in
Kindergarten and has never recovered. She spent her youth performing with S.P.A.C.E. and the
Ukiah Players Theater until she moved to Los Angeles for a year-long intensive acting program
at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Her favorite role remains beating out all the
boys to play Bottom the Weaver in a high school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and
her favorite plays are Noises Off and Fiddler on the Roof. She has performed locally with Evil
Comedy Improv and competed in a few Film Sprint competitions. She is usually found reading,
writing, and cuddling her kids and dogs, especially her terrier mix, Sir Arfred Hitchcock.

Jess Rodgers (He/Him) is thrilled to be making his Left Edge Theatre debut! Jess has been
performing around the Bay Area since returning from Southern California where he got his
degree in Theatre from California State University of Fullerton. You may have seen him in Six
Degrees of Separation (Sonoma Arts Live) or as Christian in Cyrano (Berkeley Shakespeare
Company). He hopes you enjoy this play about what happens when partners stop listening to
each other.

Jonathen Blue (He/They) is excitedly returning to the Left Edge stage. He is an NBBJ Forty
Under 40 recipient and a 2024 Profiles Person of the Year. He appeared on this stage in
productions including [title of show] and Bootycandy (Left Edge Theatre) and around the North
Bay in productions including Kinky Boots (6th Street Playhouse) and Six Degrees of
Separation (Sonoma Arts Live). Blue also directs, choreographs, and designs hair and makeup
for productions across the Bay Area.
